Woodworking Tools Tips
Cabinet Scrapers
The key to getting a great edge on a
cabinet scraper is the file you use to establish the
cutting edge. You need a mill smooth file and most suppliers
will only have bastards. However, they are just too
rough for this fine cutting tool. (Eric Mook, Lombard
Store Manager)
Sharpening
When sharpening chisels and plane irons,
don't forget to address the backs. 70 percent of your
time should be spent on the front bevel, and 30 percent
on the backs. This will ensure that both surfaces meet
perfectly to create a razor sharp edge. (Eric Mook,
Lombard Store Manager)
Hand Planes
The best tune-up you can do to your hand
planes is to wax the bottoms. You don't believe the
difference it makes! (Eric Mook, Lombard Store Manager)
